Christmas Wishes

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all my wonderful blogging buddies a very Merry Christmas full of lots of goodies as well as plenty of good cheer, followed by only the very best of health and happiness for 2018

As some of you may know the last 3 months have been a bit of a struggle for me with my Hubby and Dad but I did manage to get this card made for my precious little granddaughter. It was nothing like the one I'd intended to make but Mojo just wouldn't come to play. I've used an image from Di's Digi stamps coloured with Promarkers and with Stickles and a couple of pompoms added to the hats and fur trim. The paper is LOTV, a piece of card die-cut along the top for the snow, some Tim Holtz snowflakes die-cut from foam and a computer generated sentiment to finish. All I can say is thank goodness for paypal as I was able to buy her presents on the internet from shops in Australia so that Santa will be able to take them straight to her on christmas eve!

I shall enter this card in the following challenges
Passion for Promarkers Mega Christmas challenge 'add a sentiment'
Words 2 Craft By challenge 'christmas in my heart'
Country View challenge 'christmas'

Dad's funeral took place the other day and it was every bit as hard as I'd imagined it would be and I even had to endure insults from my Dad's neighbour afterwards. Anyway I received a lovely email of support from my daughter this morning which made me think.... and I have made a New Years resolution which I'm starting straight away -  to find at least one thing to smile and laugh about each day - and so my first smile is my Dad and my first laugh is at people who think themselves such perfect beings who are better than others.

Now before I go I want to ask you all a question.... as I managed to keep my 2017 resolution, which was to buy lots and lots of crafty goodies, I'm just wondering if you think I should carry on with that one as well? - don't knock it.... that's the first resolution I've ever managed to keep! Anyways please be patient with me as I slowly make the rounds to catch up with you all and hopefully I can get myself craftuly motivated  in the new year.......

................. so until then, take care and have a wonderful festive holiday all of you and thanks for being such good friends.

Update and extended blog break

I'm just popping by to explain my blog break. My Dad was admitted to hospital at the beginning of November and things have been up and down with him during that time. Yesterday evening he finally gave up his fight to live... just 5 days before his 97th birthday. I will be joining you back in Blogland at some point but not quite sure when that will be. Take care all of you and happy crafting.

Taking a break

Hi everyone, I hope things are well with you all.

I'm just popping in to let you know I shall be missing from Blogland for a while but I'll be back to catch up with you all just as soon as I can.

Christmas Critters

Morning all and thanks for popping by today. I made this card at the weekend for a couple of challenges but I've only just got around to taking a photo of it......

I used one of the old LOTV toppers which I die-cut and matted with Xcut dies. The strip of card was embossed with a folder that was a magazine freebie with some thin strips of red paper added on the top and bottom. Finally I added a Tattered Lace snowflake die with a gem to finish.

I made this for the Allsorts challenge 'christmas creatures' and as I used  snippets of card I'm heading over to play at  Pixie's Snippets Playground

So is anyone else beginning to panic like me about the number of christmas cards they've still got to make or are you super organised? This is the only card I've managed to make since my last post and Mojo has gone into hiding again so not sure when the next one will get made!

Wednesday, 25 October 2017

Good Morning to you all and thanks for popping by today. It's a lovely autumnal day here, chilly but dry and the sun is poking his head out too.... and so on to my cards with autumnal themes.

First up is a one layer card (which is a very rare thing for me) made using only Memento Dew Drop inks and Uniko products. First off I stamped a flower from the 'flower power #3' set, then used my newly purchased 'wonky stripes' stencil to make the background (I'm so glad I bought that stencil) and finally I added a sentiment from the 'all occasion sentiment set. I know it perhaps looks a bit more summery than autumnal in the photo but it really is like the colours of the leaves around our home.

I made this for the following challenges

Uniko challenge 'autumn/fall with the optional twist of halloween'

For my second card I used one of the decoupage sheets from the Joanna Sheen 'House Mouse' cd. The background paper is from the Prima 'botanical collection, the sentiment is recycled from a shop bought card and the lettere are Memory Box dies.

I made this for

CD Sunday challenge 'when autumn leaves start to fall'

Words 2 Craft By challenge 'autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower'

I don't know about you but the days are racing by here and I'm so behind with all my jobs. Still at least Hubby's health is improving daily and he's getting back to his normal self... it's surprising what a difference a couple of weeks can make. I'm off to make a start on some christmas cards now, well at least those that are bound for foreign lands. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the week whatever you may have planned.

Get Well and a Snippets Christmas

Hi everyone.... remember me?  Thanks for all your kind wishes for Hubby's recovery and I'm happy to say he's out of hospital but things are taking a bit longer than expected. Still at least he's a lot better than he was three weeks ago and I even managed to get a bit of crafty playtime over the weekend and have a couple of cards to show you that I made from bits and pieces in my box that I just juggled around with.

First up is a Bugaboo image coloured with Promarkers, a Uniko sentiment and pearlescent card embossed with a Die'sire embossalicious folder. To finish I added a couple of flowers with card candi centres.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

As You Like It 'ribbon or flowers'
That was a bit of a tough choice as I use both but I finally settled for flowers and specifically the first type of flowers I bought when I started cardmaking. Flowers are a lovely finishing touch and can cheer up a card so much - and this type are perfect for those that have to be posted in the mail.

Passion for Promarkers 'embossing'

Next up is my snippets card. I played truant from the Playground last time around due to my nursing duties so was determined to skip along this fortnight to say a quick hello to the Playmates and Miss Di. All I had to do for this card was some sticking onto a hammered effect card base as I'd already got all these dies cut from snippets of gold and white card. I was going to add some ribbon to hide the join between the two gold die-cuts but decided it looked okay without so left it with the snowflake border tucked under the sentiment. Then I added a couple of pearls to the snowflakes and the job was done. So I'm skipping off to Pixie's Snippets Playground  with this one.

I should be able to start catching up with you later this week but until then I'd like to say a big thank you to you all for your continued visits and kind words... you really are the greatest blogging friends.

NBUS Penny Black

I'm sorry I've not been around visiting the last few days but I haven't really been in the mood for blogging. My hubby wasn't feeling well at the beginning of the week and what we assumed was a bug actually turned out to be acute appendicitis and peritonitis so he ended up being whisked off to hospital for emergency surgery. He's now got post-op complications so his hospital stay is longer than expected. I'm just keeping my fingers, toes, legs and everything crossed that he gets better soon.

After my last post I inked up another NBUS item - a Penny Black stamp called 'snowy perch' - and have made a very uninspiring card with it..... (I am so lost without Hubby here to give his opinion).... but I thought I would drop by so you don't think I'm being rude and ignoring you all.

While I'm here I'll link up to the following challenges

Darnell's NBUS challenge #12

Penny Black's Holiday Head Start challenge

Penny Black and More challenge 'close to nature'

Thanks for your visit today and I'll come and catch up with you when I can.

NBUS Distress Oxides

It's time for another NBUS challenge hosted by the lovely and fun Darnell over on her blog. In case you're not sure NBUS stands for never-before-used-schtuff and just like most of you I'll hold my hand up and admit to having rather a lot, but instead of being a good girl and using my old NBUS I've gone and bought some new goodies!

Most of you have been using Distress Inks for ages but I only have ONE ink pad (tattered rose) which I bought years ago and very rarely use. I know that is really bad of me and as everyone is raving about the new Distress Oxides I thought it was time to take the plunge and the other day I ordered FOUR colours all at the same time! They arrived pretty quick and before tucking them away in the cupboard I decided to have a bit of a play.... and to cut a long story short I've ordered another four colours as well as a couple of Distress Ink mini pads sets.

I got some very old A4 photo paper which I cut it into four pieces (as I honestly thought that my efforts would end up in the bin and didn't want to waste any good card) then duly swiped a couple of colours on the mat, sprayed with water and ran the card through it. After drying it off I reached for an NBUS stamp Uniko 'background blocks stars' which Bev very generously sent me with my last order (thank you Bev) and sprayed water on the stamp before stamping onto the oxide background. Then I dropped a paper towel on top to soak up the water and I love the pattern it left. I cut it down to size before matting onto some coloured card and used the remaining piece to die cut the Lawn Fawn 'thanks' and to finish off I added an NBUS Concord & 9th floral die with a sequin centre.

For the second card I used the same photo paper with all four colours and a Memory Box stencil sprayed with water to lift some of the ink. I stamped Penny Black 'happy bliss' with Memento ink then heat embossed with clear powder before matting it on to black card. I decided the birds and round the centre of the dandelions needed some sparkle so I touched it up with a Sakura glitter pen.

this one shows the glitter pen a little better

Thanks for popping by today and for all your lovely comments and if you want to check out all
the Rules and Prize details  (as well as some fun and laughter) pop over to Darnell's blog post  HERE

Shining Snippets

A quick post from me today with my snippets make. It's one of those throw together type of cards where you pick up snippets of (in this case) shiny and glitter card and die-cuts and just wriggle them about to see what happens. The image is Bugaboo which I coloured with my usual Promarkers and I stuck them all with foam pads to give that fun dimension feel to it.

I made this for the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground 'use your snippets'

Passion For Promarkers 'let it shine'

Told you it was a quick post!.... Hubby is expecting me to have finished the cleaning before he gets back from his physio appointment so I'd better crack on otherwise he'll suspect I've been having a mooch around the online crafty shops (now would I do such a thing?!). Thanks for popping by and I hope you all have a great week.

Koala Fun

Beware, this is rather a photo heavy post!

I was looking for a Koala stamp and after checking out a few different brands I decided on a set from My Favourite Things called 'Cuddly Koalas'. My Favourite Things are running a 2017 Card Design Superstar challenge at the moment so I decided to have a play with my new stamps and join in with a couple of the categories. For both of my cards I've used the 'Cuddly Koalas' stamp set and the 'Surf & Turf' Die-namics die set. I fussy cut all the images and it took quite some time so the matching dies are a definite requirement next time I go shopping.

Here's my card for the Clean & Simple Genius category

and this is my card for the Innovation Master category which combines a slider card along with a bendy card (neither of which I've made before!)

I really enjoyed making both of these cards and was pleased with how they both turned out and I shall definitely be having a lot more fun with these adorable Koalas.

Thanks for popping by and I hope you have a great weekend.

I don't normally CASE cards but when I saw the challenge over at Time Out I knew I couldn't resist getting out a couple of my new stamp sets and joining in. For my card I used Uniko's 'background blocks halftone' and 'pure florals Cosmos' with some pearls added to finish it off.

and this is the fabulous card from Beverley Brown that I CASEd

Thanks for popping by today and for all your lovely comments, I really do appreciate all your visits.

Snippets and Glitter

Hi to all you crafty people, I hope you're having a good start to the weekend. I've got a couple of cards to show you today which I made to try and get myself motivated while Mojo is absent.

First off I headed for the pile of card snippets and cut a few of the Memory Box 'chloe stems' die. This is one of my favourite dies that I've had for a few years now and it doesn't cut as well as it used to (no matter what I try) so I ended up getting the scissors out to snip those last little bits. The sentiment is a HLS stamp from the 'mix mash' set.

The stems are actually more autumnal looking but in the photo the greens looks a bit blueish and the rust red looks pinkish. Who says the camera never lies?... and I did try it on various settings!

I'm heading over to the following challenges with this

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'

Memory Box challenge 'falling for fall autumn cards'

Next up I've gone all glittery for my christmas card covering the card base with an Xcut adhesive glitter sheet. I used a magazine freebie embossing folder and dies from Marianne Designs, Tattered Lace and Tim Holtz.

I'm heading over to the following challenges with this

Double D challenge 'glitter glitter glitter'

Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge 'sketch'

Christmas Cards All Year Round challenge 'use leaves'

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge 'anything goes christmas + option add some flowers or foliage'

I'm way behind today as I overslept this morning so I'm off to try and get all the jobs done so that I can have a crafty play later. Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Relaxing Summer Hols

Just dashing in with a card I nearly forgot to blog - talk about missing Mojo, I reckon the brain's going AWOL as well!

The challenge over at Words 2 Craft By is vacation and the inspirational words are 'A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in' - Robert Orben. What a brilliant thought although very rarely true as there are always plenty of jobs here that need doing and no matter how many hours in the day they never get done!....  But I did take those words literally when I made my card and picked out this fabulous decoupage sheet from one of my House Mouse cds and with the addition of some paper and stuff from my stash I had my 'mice on holiday / vacation' card. They look like they're having a super relaxing day with nothing to do!

Thanks for popping by today.

Penny Black Snowman

Hi everyone, sorry not to have been visiting for a couple of days but my laptop decided to go on the blink. My very clever Hubby has managed to fix it (again) so I'm now back in business

I'm here with another christmas card this time using a Penny Black snowman stamp coloured with Promarkers with a bit of Stickles added for sparkle. I matted the image onto some dark blue card, then onto a piece of embossed card before attaching to the card blank. To finish I added a Penny Black die-cut sentiment that I cut in white and dark blue so that I could off-set to give that shadow effect.

I made this for the following challenges

Penny Black Holiday Head Start challenge 'holiday theme'

Penny Black and More challenge 'get ready for christmas'

Addicted To Stamps challenge 'christmas'

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge 'christmas with option - add some sparkle'

Deep Ocean challenge 'fave colour combo'    for christmas cards my favourite colour combo is definitely blue and white

Thanks for taking the time to pop by today and I hope you all have a great week.

Christmas Digi

It's a glorious sunny day here and it feels a bit wrong to be posting this christmas card but I really do need to get some more made before I end up all in a dither come December.

On a recent clean out of my digistamps I found this lovely image from 'the Paper Shelter' called 'Hope' which was given away as a freebie at christmas a couple of years ago, so I thought it about time to be printed off. I used Promarkers to colour, LOTV papers, TH stitched oval and snowflakes dies, with some ribbon and pearls to finish. Looking at the photo I've just realised I forgot to add some Stickles so will have to do that later.

I'm entering this in the following challenges

The Paper Shelter 'pearls. gems and/or enamel dots'

ABC Christmas 'P Q and R for people, quick and/or red'

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas 'anything goes christmas + option use something old'

That's Crafty 'only cards'

Well that's enough frostiness from me.... I'm off outside to enjoy the weather before those snowflakes become a reality! Thanks for popping by and I hope you all have a great week.

Rudolph Day and My happy Mail

Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a great weekend and looking forward to the extra day Bank Holiday if you're lucky enough to be having one. Yesterday I receieved some 'Happy Mail' from the lovely Mia in Greece.... I was very lucky to win the Name Day candy she had on her blog Craftartista and she sent me a parcel full to overflowing of so many wonderful goodies so I set to last night and made a card using some of the stamps and ribbon.

I shall head over to the August Rudolph Days challenge with this

I thought you might like to see the parcel I received

... and to show you how many wonderful goodies she managed to pack in there I've made a photo collage. There is so much - ribbons, lace, buttons, stamps and lots more, as well as her own crochet work, some shells she had collected from the beach and last but not least a packet of greek coffee which is bubbling on the stove as I type. Thank you so much Mia for all these fabulous goodies.

Mia is new to Blogland so it would be lovely if you could pay her a visit and say Hi to her and also see the crafts she makes.

Thanks for popping by today and taking the time to leave a comment . I'm just off now to do a spot of tidying up in the garden while the sun is shining, so I'll be round to visit you later.

Spell Book

I'm back again... two posts in two days and I bet you're as surprised as I am!

Truth be told I woke up just after 6am and could not get back to sleep so I lay in bed trying to think up ideas for cards and the challenge over at Cupcake Inspirations with the theme 'world of witches and wizards' came to mind. I knew I had this image on my House Mouse CD and also some papers from Bearly Mine Designs (sadly no longer trading) that would be perfect and decided to make a spell book. I printed an extra image so that I could layer it up and I cut the letters with a Memory Box die but just before sticking them I decided to substitute the 'o's with some googly eyes and I think it looks much more fun.

and here's a close up to show the decoupage

and this is the inspiration photo

I actually enjoyed making this and you never know I just might (or might not!) get around to covering the rest of the notebooks I bought for pennies in the sale a couple of years ago

..... Oh and before I go I just want to mention that the lovely Darnell has announced her next NBUS challenge will run from September 24th to October 4th so get ready to break out your NBUS and just in case you didn't know that is 'never-before-used-schtuff'

Hoots and Squeaks

At the moment I seem to be just 'putting cards together' rather than having any real enthusiasm for what I'm doing and here are two that I made for challenges to try and get me motivated. I'm hoping that now the weather is getting colder Mojo might decide to return home and stop all these silly hide and seek games and give me some proper inspiration!

Anyways here's my first card using an NBUS Woodware stamp I managed to pick up on sale a few months ago. I used my usual Promarkers to colour him and added some googly eyes for fun. The paper is two leftover pieces that were from one of my CDs - can't remember which as they've been in the 'bit' box for over a year now - and I found the sentiment in the 'recycling' box

This is for the following challenges

Allsorts 'forest friends'

Penny Black and More 'all creatures great and small

Stamping Sensations 'anything goes'

Now for my second card which I made using one of the decoupaged images from the Joanna Sheen House Mouse CD I had already made up. Luckily I've still got a fair few of these left from when I had a mad printing, cutting and sticking phase some time ago. So with the addition of Dovecraft paper, 'happy birthday' and balloon dies and a piece of bakers twine I have another card.

and this is for the following challenges

In The Pink '5th birthday so anything goes'

Card Mania 'party'

and as the dies were cut from snippets I shall skip over to Pixie's Snippets Playground to see the Playmates

Thanks for popping by today and I hope you all have a great week.

Pink Cutie

Afternoon all and thanks for popping by.

Mojo is still playing hide and seek but I have managed to put together a card using a lovely digi from Mo Manning called Amanita and coloured with my usual Promarkers. The papers are from Dovecraft and I used QuicKutz dies to cut the image and card for matting, an Xcut die to cut the stamped LOTV sentiment and a Die-namics die to cut the number 3. Then I addded some ribbon, flowers and gems to finish.

I made this for the following challenges

In The Pink 'fantasy'

Allsorts 'name and/or number'

Noor! Design 'anything goes'

As You Like It 'what's your favourite embellishment and why'
That's pretty easy for me and it has to be gems or pearls as most of my cards end up with them. They come in so many colours and sizes and you can add them to all types of cards - fussy, CAS, female, male, mixed media and so on - and they just add that little bit of detail to finish things off.

Well the forecast for the next couple of days is dry and sunny so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I'm halfway through getting all the curtains down and washed before the summer disappears completely. Hope you have a fun week whatever you have planned.

Ribbon Snippets and a New Little Crafter

Hi everyone I'm popping by today with a snippets make so that I can go and play with the Playmates over at Pixie's Snippets Playground - and maybe I'll sneak a peak of Parsnip tanning himself in preparation for his Playmate of the Week appearance!

Don't you love it when a plan comes together without even having made one in the first place.... well that's what happened to me today when I spied my bag of ribbon bits (you know those pieces that are only a few inches long but you don't want to bin them) and picked out a few that worked together. Then I found a leftover piece of embossed card (from an A4 sheet) which was the wrong size for an A6 card but  it was the perfect size for my very last Avery Elle card blank (4.25 x 5.5 inch). I stuck the ribbon ends under the embossed card before sticking it to the card blank and then added a double layered Concord + 9th butterly die cut from snippets of card with some pink gems to finish.

It was so hard to get a good photo and it really does look much better in real life and the silky ribbons give it a little shimmer.

Oh and just before I go I have a couple of photos to show you of my little Miss Cutie Pie (granddaughter) painting a canvas. I can't believe she's 18 months old now and has grown so much since I saw her last year. If anyone has noticed in the photos, she actually does use her left hand as much as the right one to do things.

Thanks for your visit and I hope you have a great week whatever your plans.

More Flowers

I had a good day yesterday because Mojo paid a rare visit and motivated me to make a couple of cards.

The first was a 5 inch square card and a play with Uniko stamps - leaves are 'Nature's Treasures II' - flowers are 'Flower Power #2' stamped onto snippets of card, highlighted with a white Sakura pen, then cut out and shaped before adding a pearl to each - sentiment is from 'Flower Power #1'

I made this for the following challenges

Uniko challenge 'flowers'

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets' (flowers, coloured card for matting)

While Mojo was still hanging around to play I got out the box of decoupaged images that I'd printed off and made up a while ago (when I was in the cutting out mood) and picked out this sweet image from the Joanna Sheen 'House Mouse triple cd'. A hunt through my stash found a paper from Raspberry Road Designs which was a magazine freebie eons ago, then a couple of flowers which must be about 5 years old and finally some ribbon. The flowers were meant to be at the top corner and a bow at the bottom, but due to me being a bit eager to get things stuck down while Mojo was still around I had to alter things to allow for the lack of space I'd left at the top....... but actually it probably looks better as it turned out.

I made this for the following challenges

Allsorts challenge 'photo inspiration'

CD Sunday challenge 'anything goes'

I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself as I actually enjoyed making both of these cards and they both came together pretty quickly too. Just hope this motivation continues and Mojo comes to play again. Thanks for popping by and I hope you're all having lots of crafty fun.
