NBUS and New Technique

Crikey, I can't believe how quick this month is passing and how little crafting I've done. At the end of last year I made myself the usual promises that I would try new techniques and also try to conquer Mt Nbus but it didn't look like I'd be doing either until Darnell laid down the gauntlet in the shape of another of her fabulous NBUS challenges.... and this time she has given us an optional theme to use  - coloured pencils on kraft or if that's not your thing to try a new technique

A search through the cupboard confirmed my suspicion that I no longer had any pencil crayons but I did find some NBUS embossing powders and Versamark ink pad which I'd bought last year when I thought I might try my hand at heat embossing...... I know, I'm very late to the party on this one but it's just something I've never got around to having a go at before. I used a Spellbinders ornament die to cut a stencil from some scrap card and with an NBUS Inkylicious duster (I've had these for at least 3 years) I applied blue Memento ink onto kraft card before using white embossing powder and a stamp from the Penny Black 'spread cheer' stamp set. I added red Stickles for the berries, star dust Stickles around the edges and then used a Sakura white pen to outline it. Then it was just a case of using a corner punch, attaching to a base card and adding a bow. I can see that I'm going to need a lot of practice to master heat embossing and glad that I only bought 3 pots of embossing powder - but at least I've tried!

The ink I used on the bauble is BLUE but looks more like grey in the photo.

So with my NBUS goodies and NBUS technique I'm heading over to Darnell's NBUS challenge

Birthday Dreams

Just popping by with a quick post this morning to show you the card I made for my Daughter's birthday. There is a bit of upcycling with this as I originally made it as a 5x7 inch card for her last year which didn't get sent. The original card - a Mo Manning image coloured with Promarkers and a Penny Black sentiment - was trimmed slightly and added to an 8x8 inch card with a LOTV background paper. I made a sentiment on the computer which I die cut with my new Tattered Lace Charisma Frames and added a bow. It looked a bit bare at the bottom so  I printed off another smaller image and cut out just a couple of the cupcakes which were coloured with Promarkers and then I added some Stickles.

Sorry about the photo but I was in a hurry to get it posted

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Allsorts challenge 'wings on things'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'angels/fairies or winter'
Inky Chicks challenge 'anything goes'

I'm off now to search for Mojo - always seems to disappear when most needed! Oh and if you hadn't already heard, the lovely Darnell is hosting a surprise NBUS challenge on her blog so time to get out all your unused crafty goodies and join in the fun.

White Winter

Hi everyone, hope you're managing to keep healthy and crafty. Unfortunately I'm failing with my new year's resolution and have only placed ONE order for crafty goods so far this year, but in my defence I did buy a good few new goodies before christmas including another die-cutting machine. My Tattered Lace Baby Blue is well used for smaller dies but I did need something for those bigger nesting dies and embossing folders so Santa treated me to a Cut'N'Boss which I am VERY happy with. (You may remember me getting a Crafters Companion Gemini machine last summer, well that was my WORST crafty purchase EVER)

So using some of my new goodies and lots of snippets of white card I've attempted a white on white design. The new dies I've used are Tim Holtz 'winter greens' and 'paper snowflakes mini' the background is embossed with a Die'sire folder and the sentiment is from another new purchase the Penny Black 'spread cheer' stamp set. As always taking photos of white cards is a pain and these are the best I got.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'
Time Out challenge 'winter with optional white on white'
Country View challenge 'anything goes'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'angels/fairies or winter'
ABC Christmas challenge 'A for anything goes or B for something beginning with B'
Noor! Design UK challenge 'anything goes'

It's taking a bit of an effort to get crafty this year, especially with this cold weather we're having - I don't know about you but I would just love to hibernate until spring! But instead I guess it's time to make a cup of hot chocolate, put on another pair of socks and try to motivate myself into action. Have a great weekend whatever you've got planned and thanks for popping by today.

Crazy Dog and Christmas Leftovers

Happy New Year everyone

I do hope you are all well and have made lots of new years resolutions that you can keep..... well for a couple of days at least. The only one I've made is to buy lots of new crafty goodies 'cos I know that's one resolution I CAN keep for the whole year!!

Despite the awful weather today I'm starting this year with fingers crossed and oodles of optimism.... hubby is feeling much better today although not quite rid of the germs..... I've not caught it off him (touching wood while I type this)..... and Dad is due out of hospital this afternoon.

Anyways enough of my waffling on, here's the card I made for Dad's 96th birthday using brand new goodies, old goodies and snippets. The new goodies are the Tim Holtz Crazy Dogs stamps and dies and some Tim Holtz distress crayons. I stamped the dog onto Daler Rowney mixed media card and used the distress crayons and water to colour the main body and aquamarkers for the pink ears and tongue and blue collar. I used the distress crayons straight onto the image and used a waterbrush to spread the colour but have since tried running the crayon onto an acrylic block and picking it up from there with a waterbrush which I found much easier. The embossed background is an Embossalicious folder matted onto some leftover coloured card and I die-cut a couple of circles (must treat myself to some balloon dies) to add the sentiments from gold peel-offs and hand written with gold pen.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixies Snippets challenge 'use snippets' coloured card for matting and snippets for the die cuts
Allsorts challenge 'something new'
Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge 'anything goes'
Penny Black and More challenge 'anything goes'
Country View challenge 'anything goes;
Winter Wonderland challenge 'for someone special / happy new year'
Sparkles Monthly challenge 'happy birthday'

and here are the christmas leftovers - a very CAS card using LOTV toppers and a Clearly Besotted sentiment stamp, which I'm entering this into Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge 'anything goes as long as it's christmas'

Thanks for your visit today and I hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday and have a great start to the new year.

Something New

New Years Eve already but there won't be any partying going on here this year.... I had to get the emergency doctor out for Hubby yesterday as he's managed to come down with the Norovirus (probably caught from the hospital when he went for his outpatient appointment on Wednesday) and my Dad ended up back in  hospital on Thursday (this time with a hernia)!

At least we all still have our sense of humour and here's a card using a fun image from Bugaboo coloured with my usual Promarkers. I used my brand new Sizzix Tim Holtz stitched rectangles to die cut the image before matting onto some red card. The background paper is from Raspberry Road Designs, the butterfly is a Penny Black die and the ribbon and gems are from my stash.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Allsorts challenge 'something new'
Passion For Promarkers challenge 'die cuts / punches'
Catch The Bug challenge 'make us laugh'
Tuesday Morning Sketches 'anything goes' and I also used one of your old sketches

Thanks for popping by and before you go I'd like to thank you for all your visits during the past year.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year

Crazy Bird Snippets

Hi everyone, I'm just popping by with a snippets make so that I can head over to the Playground and see what the Playmates are up to and see if there are any mince pies left.

This card is made entirely from snippets of paper and card.... I cut the bottom of the papers to turn them into banners, cut the sentiment with a Tattered Lace die and the stars with Xcut dies. The Tim Holtz crazy bird is coloured with Promarkers with a touch of Sakura clear glaze pen then cut with the matching die and a googly eye added. I hand cut his hat and used glitter pens to add the dots, and to finish it all off I added some card candi.

The colours look a bit washed out in the photo and IRL it's a lot more cheerful (but it may just be my laptop screen)

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'

Passion For Promarkers challenge 'use your dies / punches'

Sparkles Monthly challenge 'happy birthday'

Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge 'anthing goes'

Thanks for taking the time to pop by today and for all your lovely comments.... and don't forget you've got until the 31st December before the Playground gates shut.

Merry Christmas Everyone

I hope you are all well and ready for the big day tomorrow, but if not then just crack open that bottle of wine and relax! I'm glad to say that both Hubby and Dad are out of hospital now and are on the mend so fingers crossed we'll all be starting off the New Year a bit healthier.

This is my card for the Cuttlebug Mania challenge where the theme is 'christmas with any colour except red or green' I've used a decoupaged image from a Joanna Sheen cd matted onto gold mirricard and with Tattered Lace poinsettia and mistletoe dies cut with my Tattered Lace Baby Blue (I do love that machine)

I'd like to thank you all for your visits and support during the past year and to wish you

a very Merry Christmas

Christmas Bauble and an apology

Hi everyone, hope all is well with you. Let me start off with an apology.... things have got a bit mad here and I've not been able to get to visit you as I should this past week. It's been the usual (food) shopping madness along with physiotherapy appointment, then my dad was admitted to hospital again on Wednesday and my dear Hubby had a spinal operation yesterday. So you can probably guess that my mind hasn't really been on crafting or blogging.

Anyways before I go I'll show you the christmas bauble that I made for my darling little miss Cutie Pie (my granddaughter). This is the same Mo Manning digi that I used for her card and again coloured with Promarkers and sparkled with Stickles. I made the sentiment on the computer and used Xcut nesting dies to cut that and the image as well as the red mirricard for matting. I added some sleigh bells and charms to each side and then glued it all together with Glossy Accents - I guessed that would be strongest and safest as I didn't want the risk of it coming apart if she played with it. Finally I tied a piece of velvet ribbon to hang it up.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Passion for Promarkers 'mega christmas challenge '
Winter Wonderland 'for someone special / happy new year'
Country View Crafts 'christmas'
Crafty Ribbons 'christmas theme creations'

Thanks for popping by and for your greatly appreciated comments and I will catch up with all as soon as I can.
